The Oracle Speaks

Advertising & The Oracle Speaks in the media

Very occasionally, and without really knowing how or why it has happened, The Oracle Speaks produces something that somebody else likes. It’s not big, and it certainly isn’t clever, (and we try not to make a habit of it), but, believe it or not, it can happen.

Back in 2009, when The Oracle Speaks was still finding its way in the world of making up news stories which laugh at the misfortune of others, we produced a spoof article on how Twestival attendees had been heckled by a group of Facebook enthusiasts at one of the London events. For some reason, the article spread across Twitter and other social media quickly, and we received a number of links as a result.

The original article received nearly 20,000 unique hits and was retweeted nearly 400 times on Twitter. It can be seen over at our old site, here:

Here’s what people said about it:

The Guardian

A national newspaper, no less! Okay, so this is a small link in a broader piece about Twestival itself, but it all counts.

“Since a couple of hours the following message is all over twitter: London twitter festival ends in chaos as crowd clashs with facebook enthusiasts. Sounds like a wild night, but actually it is a hoax. The truth is, in London the twitterers partied and tweeted till the early morning.”

“There’s an hilarious spoof story worming its way around the web today, claiming that last nights ‘Twestival’ was thwarted by a group of fanatical Facebook fans. Scenes akin to the recent Milwall/ Westham riots ensued, whilst delegates from each camp updated absent friends on the fight status via their PDAs.”

“Jon’s post “reported” that London Twestival, last night’s get-together for Twitter folk – ended in mass violence when a flashmob of Facebook users showed up looking for trouble. It was quickly retweeted and has raced its way through Twitter thanks to pushes from a couple of well-followed and respected posters.”

Today, The Oracle Speaks receives between 4,000 and 5,000 unique hits every month. If you would like to advertise with us, please do feel free to drop us a line with a proposal – we’re also happy to take part in media partnerships and produce sponsored posts.
